Panel Descriptions and Featured Panelists (Subject to Change)

MEMS Market Analyst Panel

Analysts from leading research firms will present their outlook for future growth and trends in MEMS, and then take audience questions. Discussion topics will include: new opportunities for growth, new applications for MEMS, as well as market leaders and losers. These panelists will stand behind their market research, point out areas of agreement, and voice any differences of opinion—all in an open, audience-engaging forum that will aim to draw an accurate picture of where the MEMS market is moving.

Panelists:

Moderator: Steven Dwyer, Vice President & General Manager, EV Group

Smart and Clean Energy: MEMS in Energy Exploration and Production

Exciting developments for MEMS in the world of energy production and storage are underway. MEMS-based energy harvesters can generate power from previously untapped sources. Smart Grid technology promises to revolutionize our electric infrastructure to increase efficiency and help lower power consumption. Companies are utilizing the enabling technology of MEMS to help lower energy costs and manage power consumption. Discussion will feature cutting edge innovations and opportunities in the critical fields of energy production, management and storage.

Panelists:

Moderator: André Rouzaud, Deputy VP of Microsystems and Heterogeneous Integration on Silicon, CEA-Leti

Robotics & Intelligent Healthcare Products: Improving Quality of Life with MEMS

New lifesaving and life-enhancing applications require a high degree of interactivity with the environment in a small package, and present tremendous market opportunities for MEMS. Japan is leading the development of robots that recognize their surroundings and nearby people—making them viable as personal attendants for the elderly or disabled, among other uses. Meanwhile, companies such as GE, Intel, Google, Philips, IBM, and Microsoft are developing remote health monitoring and diagnostic technologies. Around the world robotic surgeon bays make it possible to perform complex, lifesaving surgeries over long distances. This panel will identify key market areas for MEMS in robotics and intelligent health products that interact with their surroundings to simply “make life better.”

Panelists:

Moderator: Dr. Harry Stephanou, Director, Automation and Robotics Research Institute (ARRI)

Next-Generation Mobile Consumer MEMS

The consumer electronics market continues to get hotter as consumers are demanding more mobile devices—from smart phones to netbooks to tablet computers—and demanding more functionality from them. MEMS accelerometers have already enabled myriad mobile apps that enhance the way people interact with their devices, but what else can MEMS do for the mobile market? Which device will be the next breakout success for MEMS in mobile CE? This panel will examine how MEMS in CE has radically changed the way society experiences mobile devices, with an eye towards new opportunities and consumer MEMS used in other markets.

Panelists:

Moderator: Frank Melzer, PhD, CEO, Bosch Sensortec GmbH
