Membership Benefits for Technologists

MIG provides you with programs that enrich your career with professional education, idea exchange and collaboration. Many of the industry’s top professionals are MIG members and as they become part of your network, your knowledge base and connections grow. Here is just a sampling:

As a member, MIG provides you with the opportunity to attend METRIC, our annual technical conference. You also have the opportunity to contribute your expertise and promote your company’s capabilities in a series of white papers on best-known practices. Our upcoming LISTSERV will put you in touch with members to discuss the latest trends in MEMS as well as assist you in solving technical challenges that are chosen by our members (YOU) to undertake in each year’s METRIC.

METRIC

METRIC (MEMS Technology Roadmap and Industry Congress), is MIG’s annual members-only conference. At this technical working conference, attendees work together to solve specific commercialization barriers affecting the MEMS industry.
MIG publishes research and conclusions from METRIC to give our members invaluable tools for strategic decision-making. All of the reports and research from past METRICS are available on the members-only section of the web site. Topics have included:

  • 2010 - Optimizing MEMS Fabrication
  • 2009 - Growth Opportunities for MEMS in a Changing Economy
  • 2008 – MEMS Packaging
  • 2007 - MEMS Industry Landscape: Identifying and Addressing Common Issues
  • 2006 – MEMS Integration
  • 2005 - Critical scientific and technical challenges to MEMS commercialization
  • 2004 – Accelerated Lifetime Test
  • 2003 – MEMS Reliability
  • 2002 – MEMS Fabrication
  • 2001 – MEMS Roadmapping

What to expect from METRIC

Throughout the year, MIG gives you the opportunity to participate in steering committee opportunities that help MIG staff and volunteers organize and determine the content for METRIC. This ensures that the technical challenges you are facing and would like to discuss further are included in METRIC. The steering committee determines the subject content of the working group and the questions to be tackled at the meeting. Members also have the opportunity to volunteer as working group moderators. This is a great way to bring exposure to your company and further enhance your own profile within the industry. It will help you plug into the MEMS network!

At METRIC, attendees divide into working groups and discuss the proposed questions. The discussion is typically lively and the goal is that all participants contribute to the conversation by sharing what has and has not worked in their companies. Discussions are pre-competitive and we do not expect you to contribute proprietary information. To enhance the perspective and outcome, the groups represent all facets of the MEMS supply chain, including engineers and experts with diverse backgrounds representing device manufacturers, consultants, equipment vendors, material suppliers, etc. After METRIC, MIG, with the guidance of its board. selects projects to work on throughout the year based on the recommendations of the group.

MEMS Education Series

MEMS Education Series is a series of short courses on MEMS topics. Launched in 2008, we have held courses on MEMS business and management and an insider’s guide to business strategy for the MEMS industry. Increased demand for MEMS devices is rapidly creating new business opportunities for both entrepreneurs and established companies alike. As a diverse industry across numerous markets, MEMS poses unique problems for developing and executing profitable business models. Our 2009 course curriculum focuses on “Insider’s Guide to Business Strategy in the MEMS Industry” and provides MEMS engineers a great overview about the business-side of MEMS that they may not deal with on a daily basis. In this course, MIG will provide an intimate view to the business elements that are critical to MEMS product success and profitability. Attendees will walk away with in-depth knowledge on how MEMS companies can stay competitive in these tough economic times.

Access to Industry Data

MIG provides you with industry data from the top MEMS analysts that may provide your company with competitive analysis and forecast information to help you make smart decisions on new technology development.

MIG also gives you access to our own primary research library of surveys, case studies, and interviews so that you may learn from your industry peers. We give you access to data that you may reference in your own presentations to support your research. We’re just a phone call or an email away to point you in the right direction to help you find all of the data that you need.
