The MEMS Education Series (www.memseducationseries.com) returns to San Francisco July 13, 2009, before SEMICON West, with an all-new MEMS Business & Management short course. Following last year's three successful sessions of the program, this year's revamped curriculum will focus on the unique challenges facing MEMS business models.
Even in a down economy, there are opportunities for entrepreneurs and existing companies to fill demand for MEMS devices and make profits. This course will appeal especially to small companies and newcomers to the MEMS industry seeking to learn about MEMS product marketing, operations, and strategic cost cutting to achieve growth.
Course instructors Dr. Alissa Fitzgerald and Dr. Jim Knutti will use examples and case studies to show students how MEMS companies can keep their competitive edge despite a harsh economic climate.
Students will take away real knowledge from a MEMS-specific perspective in key areas such as:
Dr. Alissa Fitzgerald is the founder and managing member of A.M. Fitzgerald & Associates, a MEMS product development and technical consulting firm that services clients from one-person startups to Fortune 500 companies. She has over 13 years of hands-on experience in MEMS design and fabrication, has developed over a dozen distinct MEMS devices, and is an expert on reliability of brittle materials and finite element analysis for MEMS devices.
Dr. Jim Knutti is the co-founder, president and CEO of Acuity Incorporated, a fabless developer of MEMS pressure sensors and other MEMS devices. Before founding Acuity, Knutti was co-founder, president & CEO of Silicon Microstructures. In his 15 years at Silicon Microstructures he lead the company from a small startup to a major supplier of MEMS pressure sensors.
