2009 MEMS Industry Report Released

MIG proudly announces the release of the 2009 Industry Report: Focus on Growth Opportunities for MEMS in a Changing Economy. This report is a culmination of the work done at METRIC 2009 and includes primary and secondary research on growth strategies for MEMS.

The report is available as a free download to all MIG members and can be accessed from the MEMS Growth Opportunities Portal.

Featured in the report are summaries of the four METRIC working groups, their recommendations for MIG and for the MEMS industry in general. Working groups included:

  • Business Strategies
This group sought to determine marketing and business strategies to look strategically towards the post-recovery market.
  • Product Definition & Market Innovation
The goal of this group was to discuss how to develop in-demand products that will thrive in this economic climate.
  • Technical Challenges in the Product Development Cycle
This working group explored using Design for Manufacturability (DFM) and test to increase efficiency and lower production costs.
  • Equipment and Material Challenges in Lean Times
This group focused on the equipment and material needs of the MEMS industry, especially as related to using them effectively to lower development costs.

MIG conducted a variety of in-depth primary research including a survey in January 2009 asking the MEMS industry how they are weathering the storm and what cost considerations they were contemplating and/or undertaking. In addition, MIG interviewed companies from all links in the supply chain about the strategies that they have adopted to prepare for the upturn. The report also includes secondary research including an impressive compilation of recent white papers on MEMS growth opportunities and markets, as well as market analysis and data from Yole Développement and iSuppli.
